To remove snow from the runways and aprons, snowovers and blowers are used. The techniques of these machines have not been renewed for decades. Until now, because a new system has been developed in cooperation with Schiphol Airport: the Snowcuber. The uniqueness of this machine is that it cannot only load the snow into trucks, but an additional patented technique has been added: snow compression. Snow consists of a lot of air and little ice. By compressing these components, the snow volume decreases by 66%, which means much less transport is required to remove snow. As a result, snow clearance with the Snowcuber is faster and, due to the combination of the techniques, less equipment and personnel are needed.

FOUNDED

SNOCOM was founded in 2013 by Henk Artz. During his studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) he came up with the idea of compressing snow. Together with Schiphol, Henk Arts and his team succeeded in developing this unique technology. A working prototype was created and the first machines were produced and sold to Schiphol Airport. In 2018 George Menonides was called in as Managing Director of SNOCOM.

RESULTS

Snowcubers have already been delivered to various airports, including Aéroport de Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Schiphol. The newest version, MK6, is currently being tested at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada.

AMBITION

Since the start, SNOCOM has developed, built and tested a number of versions of the Snowcuber. The financial impulse from KIKK Capital will not only be used to stimulate international sales, it will also be used to further develop the current machine and make it suitable for other markets such as municipalities and ports.
